Your customers are looking on social media right now for a business to buy from. At this very moment, you, your photos, and your business can be seen by friends, and friends of friends – all the way to six degrees of separation (and Kevin Bacon). Facebook may be the most popular social media site online right now, but unless you know how to use it effectively, the time you spend on it could be wasted effort. If you have 50 friends, all family or personal friends, marketing to them isn’t going to do a thing for your business. In this guide, I will teach you how to leverage Facebook for your business. It isn’t just about being on Facebook. It’s really about connecting with a Facebook audience to generate more business.

How to Use Facebook to Get Leads for Your Business
As a small business owner, you are busy. But you know you need to be tapping into the power of Facebook, you may just not know how. In this 90-Minute Recorded Webinar with companion 80+ page E-book* (now updated for Timelines!), How to Use Facebook to Get Leads for Your Business, I give you the exact steps to take to start generating leads with Facebook and building Super Fans who will do your selling for you.
The real opportunity lies in the actual number of people that like your page and follow you on a regular basis. And while it can take a little bit of time and effort, growing your numbers can help you reach out and make a connection.
Get Your Family and Friends Involved
The first and easiest way to add a few people to your page is to ask the people you are closest to, and invite them to Like your Page. Send a quick email directing them to your Page, and give them an incentive.
This group already knows and trusts you, so Like your Page should be an automatic decision. And by gaining a few numbers, you won’t have that “new” look when you start asking more to join.
Send Out Some Invitations
Facebook makes it easy to connect with your friends. While on your Page, you have a variety of options to grow your Page, including a “Suggest To Friends” option. By clicking this function, a separate window opens up, giving you the ability to send recommendations to all of your friends under your personal profile.
If you have a few hundred friends, don’t send recommendations out all at once. Instead, work through your list a little at a time – 10 to 25 a day is a good number to shoot for. This way you don’t end up with fifty Likes the first day, and nothing for days after that.
You want to grow your Page as quickly as possible, yet you don’t want sudden spikes and drop-offs. Keep the fans coming day after day so others can watch your growth and want to join too.
Run a Facebook Ad Campaign
Even if you are on a limited budget, Facebook makes it easy and affordable to run small campaigns to bring people into your Page. For as little as $5 a day, you can be up and running, and targeting people that are your prospects.
Facebook has the best demographics in the world, and you can target specific categories of the population that fit your ideal client. You can target your ads based on dozens of different demographics, including age, gender, marital status, location, profession, interest, hobbies, etc.
The purpose of your ad isn’t to sell your services. Instead, it’s to bring people into your Page, with the sole purpose of Liking your page.
Promote With A Fan Page Badge
Once you get content and followers within your Page, you can move the conversation to your site/blog as well. Facebook makes it easy to create widgets that showcase your page, your conversations, and even the people that currently Like your page.
Resist the urge to begin promoting too quickly. Instead, wait until you have some activity happening on a regular basis. Grab a Fan Page Badge – we have ours in the sidebar of our blog – and embed it wherever you choose.
As you add content to your Page, it will automatically feed into your Facebook widget, letting your site visitors see your latest posts. Each update is time stamped, so it will show if you haven’t posted in several weeks or months.
Customize Your Page
As you continue to grow, Facebook makes it easy to customize your Page, and add graphics, content, and apps to personalize it any way you choose. You can choose what tab a person receives the first time they visit your Page, and where they navigate to once they’ve clicked the Like button.
You can add multiple tabs to your Page, and choose to add as much content and interaction as you want. Do simple searches in Facebook to see what others are creating, and use it as motivation for designing your own content.
Reaching 1,000 Likes
Following the steps outlined will quickly have your numbers up to 1,000 and beyond. However, do keep in mind that its not the numbers that bring success, it’s the quality of the numbers.
You can have a Page with 100,000 Likes, yet if there is little to no interaction, you’ll have little success.
Engage your visitors, give them a reason to come back and take interest in what you do, and you’ll quickly find success on Facebook.
